The Endless One is a malevolent entity hailing from the Void, summoned by the Devourers of God and inhabiting Terrence Addison until that vessel's destruction. Its relationship with the Red-Eyed Demon is ambiguous, but tangentially present[1].
Appearance[]
In its truest form, The Endless One seems to be an army-green sludge, typically decorated in various human body parts for reasons unexplained. It has been seen to have a large mouth lined with sharp teeth, numerous eyes bearing black sclerae and white patterned pupils[2], and at least one eye which is entirely red[3].
Personality[]
The Endless One seems to, as its alternate title would suggest, aim to devour "the creator of all things". It believes its completion of this goal to be "inevitable", as it is "eternal" and has already "surpassed god itself", as well as being the "final stage of all humanity"[4].
Biography[]
Summoned into the body of Terrence Addison by method of ritualistic cannibalism, sometime during or after 1905[5]. Sometime between 1917 and 1932, The Endless One destroys Terrence's soul, and influences him to murder his parents. "Terrence"'s appearance begins to show its inhabitation, and thus The Endless One is locked away in Room 103 of Addison Apartments, continuing to use it as a source of power[6]. In 1999, Sal Fisher frees some lingering form of Terrence from The Endless One, who disappears. It reappears sometime during or before 2005, when it is ultimately defeated by Ashley, Larry, and Sal[7].
Trivia[]
- The Endless One's line, "The creator of all things decays in our bowels," may potentially be a reference to Goethe's Faust, particularly lines 458-459 of Martin Greenberg's translation, which read "Christ is arisen/from the bowels of decay".
