Kenneth Phelps is one of the two main antagonists of Sally Face. He is the father of Travis Phelps and a pastor at the Phelps Ministry. He made his first brief appearance in The Trial, where it is revealed he is the leader of The Devourers of God and whilst summoning the Red-Eyed Demon to Earth. He is the man responsible for Diane's murder.

Appearance

He wears a black cloak and a dog mask. His robes are blue with red cuffs at the ends of the sleeves. The robe likely has a hood as well, as all the cultist uniforms include it.

Personality

Kenneth Phelps is the personification of a zealot, possessing no qualms releasing Red-Eyes upon the world in service to the cause of the Devourers of God.

His commitment followed him into his personal life, going as far as to abuse his son upon learning of his homosexuality and forcing him to attend the Cult's meetings at his ministry.

Biography

Leading the Cult

Kenneth devoted his life to honoring the will of the Devourers of God, founded by his family centuries before he was born, doing so even at the expense of his son's physical and social well being.

Kenneth, along the rest of the cult, finally witnessed events fulfilling the prophecies long held by their zealous ancestors through the infection of the Addison family by The Plague of Shadows as well as the infection of Terrence Addison following the murder of his own family and his metamorphosis into the Endless One.

Kenneth's plans came to close to realization but were ultimately derailed due to the intervention of a fellow Council Member, Alyson Rosenberg and others opposed to the cult's activities.

Despite the Red-Eyed Demon terminating all that interfered by possessing Luke Holmes, Kenneth was determined to avoid further disruptions to the opening of the Void and took more direct measures to do so when the prophecy regarding a monstrous child came to his attention. The child was named Sal Fisher.

During Sal's youth, Kenneth stalked and maimed the boy in an effort to kill him but failed due to the intervention of Diane Fisher, the child's mother. Satisfied that he had thwarted the prophecy, Kenneth and his followers went back into hiding, eagerly anticipating the day they would overthrow God.

The Trial

The day Larry Johnson had planned to move in with Neil, Todd Morrison, and Sal Fisher, the Devourers of God sprung into action to release the Red-Eyed Demon onto the populace of Nockfell once again. Kenneth served as the primary summoner/spiritualist to bring about the Dark Capsule to infect the residents of Addison Apartments.

While Sal worked to destroy the capsule and free the tenants from the infection, Kenneth abducted Todd and offered him to Red-Eyes to serve as a physical host.

How Todd escaped Kenneth, or if the cultist let the boy loose, remains a mystery.

Memories and Dreams

Kenneth and his followers enjoyed great success following the execution of Sal Fisher, much of the world's population was infected and 33% of it would be lost entirely.

Believing the cult was close to overthrowing God himself, Kenneth collected children from around Nockfell and gutted them to strengthen The Void further. In the midst of the ritual, Kenneth was confronted by Ashley Campbell, empowered by the spirit of Sal Fisher. Determined to see his plans through to the end, Kenneth sent his followers to kill the girl and buy him the time necessary to strengthen the Void, eventually becoming a part of it himself.

Kenneth, along with the Cult's efforts, perished due to the intervention of his own son, Travis who impaled him with a blade and plummetted into The Void.

Trivia

  • Kenneth was the dog silhouette that can be seen when younger Sal is traversing through the forest in The Wretched.
    • Kenneth was trying to kill the young Sal with a shotgun but Diane sacrificed her own life to save her son and got shot.
  • Aside from Sal Fisher, Kenneth Phelps is the only named character in the game whose face is never revealed.
