David Finch[1] was an ex-drug addict[2] Yinzer who lived alongside his dummy wife Sara in Addison Apartments room 302.

Appearance

David was a very lanky and sickly-looking[3] man, with a dark skin tone, balding head, black eyes, and notably large eyebags due to his difficulty sleeping[4]. He was only ever seen in his undergarments.

Personality

David was always rather amicable to Sal, ever helpful and seeming to wish the best for him[2]. He seemed entirely pleased with his humble accommodations, and found no qualm in getting his furniture from trash heaps[5]. However, he wasn't entirely trustworthy, as he refused to return Lisa's crowbar to Larry on numerous occasions, and only surrendered it to Sal after the latter quieted the College Kids in room 301.

Biography

David was originally from Pittsburgh, as evident in his speech patterns. He left the city to pursue sobriety. It was only while moving his belongings to Nockfell that David met Sara, whose life he (reputedly) saved. They were quick friends, and within a short time, lovers as well[1], ultimately winding up illegitimately married[6] and living together in room 302 of Addison Apartments.

In the winter following the arrest of Charley Mansfield, David aided in Sal Fisher's investigation on the spirits of the apartment complex by providing a crowbar he had been using to prop up his shelf, which otherwise fell down due to his rowdy college neighbors.

A visit inside of David's apartment reveals him to be in possession of the missing piece to Jim Johnson's Puzzle Box. He claims it was simply in the trash.

David, like all the other residents of Addison Apartments, was butchered by Sal to prevent Red Eyes from spreading.

Trivia

  • There was a photograph in his and Sara's room showing them getting married.
  • Sal also addresses Sara as though she were living, likely to respect David's feelings.
  • David and Charley are notably similar characters in terms of attire and unhealthy habits.
  • David is a direct reference to Steve's life in Pittsburgh, specifically to an instance in which he saw a man carrying a sex doll on a Greyhound.[7]
    • Sara being a mannequin may also be a call-back to the series "Twin Peaks," and a character called the Log Lady, who carries a log and treats it as a human being. This possibility is given more credit by the Twin Peaks parody poster in Sal's room.
