Addison Temple is a centuries-old complex that is located beneath Addison Apartments. It was built by the Devourers of God as an expansion of the original Phelps Temple[1].
History[]
Addison Temple was built in the year 1887[1], long after the construction of the Phelps Temple, when the Addison Family moved from overseas and constructed Addison Apartments[2]. Over the centuries, the cult would congregate there in secret, following the traditions of the Grey Tribe.
The Bologna Incident[]
While investigating the source of Nockfell High School's bologna, a series of events led to Ashley falling down a trash chute located in Mrs. Packerton's room. After receiving a vision, Sal knew where Ashley was located, and upon further investigation, the group of teens discovered an entrance leading below the basement, from a sealed-off basement apartment.
Descending the stairs, they were met with the cult’s temple, the architecture of which provoked Todd's interest, as it was extremely dated. It was abandoned and dusty, and possessed old lightbulbs there that appeared to run on necroevlectricity - the supernatural power source which the Gear Boy emits. The room also contained a secret alcove on the far right, and a tome on either side. Sal proposed destroying the site in case of future dangers, but at Todd's request, the group agreed to leave it intact. Ashley was not in that room; however, they were unable to advance due to a locked gate. While Sal eventually figured out how to open it, the solution required Todd to stay behind standing on the gate’s switch while Sal and Larry ventured further into the complex in search of Ashley.
After navigating the labyrinth of hallways and solving numerous puzzles, as well as finding several more tomes and secret rooms within, Sal and Larry finally made it to the final gate, which Sal was able to unlock with the Hex Key he had found in Mrs. Packerton’s desk. Inside was a room with four chutes leading into it, each with a pile of bones at the bottom, with Ash unconscious on the leftmost one. It is unknown where the other three originate from, but it is possible it's simply a diverging chute. They were then able to retrieve Ashley. After exiting the temple, the teens agreed not to tell their parents about what they had found.
The Trial[]
Five years later, realizing that the ghosts that inhabited the apartment complex had mysteriously vanished, Larry enlisted Sal to help scour the complex for any clues regarding their fates. After searching the complex, and even looking through the temple, they were unable to find any answers.
That very night, the cult returned to the temple. With the aid of the Red-Eyed Demon, they performed a ritual summoning the Pillar, thus awakening the Endless One, all while also attempting to tear the fabric of reality and trigger the infection of everyone within the apartments. As Sal was preoccupied with destroying the Pillar and fighting the Endless One, the cult abducted Todd and took him to the temple. There, they performed yet another ritual, forcing Todd to become the Red-Eyed Demon’s latest host, before vanishing and allowing Todd to go free, as the damage had already been done.
