Theories
I don't remember if I've said this before or not, but I will now, just because it's been on my mind.
Sal is from New Jersey. Nockfell is not in New Jersey, otherwise he wouldn't have to specify that they were out of state when talking to Larry and his dad in chapter one.
Kenneth Phelps is from Nockfell, born and bred, and his church has been going strong since well before Sal arrived. This raises the question of why Kenneth was in NJ when Sal was six (he moved to Nockfell at 15) and tried shooting him in the face.
There isn't a logical explanation that would explain why Kenneth would be in NJ, or why Sal would have been in Nockfell at the time, because if that's where he got shot, why would he and his dad move there?
I noticed this inconsistency and wondered if it was a plot hole, or, like, something I missed.
Every day at 3 am I wonder is the same colour of his hair is the same thing between his legs or no or is it a different colour because his dad's eyebrow is blue so is it blue or no?
Does anyone know when the bolgane ep takes place? I was having an argument with my friend over ashes age and she brought up how she had to be 17 bc sals 17 and their brithday is 13 days apart so i proposed that the bolgane ep could of been between those days, wondering what yall thought
So yippie theory time, i finally played sally face for the first time!!! (ive only ever watched gloom play it, miss her btw) and i have a point to bring up about the strange hole you guys know, the one with point of no return. im not sure if this has ever been brought up btw i just over analyze a lot, but after larry brings you back and what not everyone seems to forget certain things later on. like the box specifically the one found in larrys treehouse left by his dad. larry later forgets the box even exists. theres also a computer chip that you put into todds computer but right after he forgets everything about it. so what if going through that hole there really isnt a return. instead you end up in a realm exactly like sals but things have been erased, say for the cults advatage. sal was going through realms and seeing all this stuff and the reason nobody believed him was that the cult was erasing that stuff from everyone but sal to keep the cult going in a way i guess. might just be some nonesense but for those who did read i hope it was interesting! ily and hope ur doing well :)
At Mrs Packerton's house, theres a picture of a missing kid who looks like that jornalist with a scar in her Head.

Ok so it has been confirmed that Trapanrot and Sara are connected. Ik it makes sense that those are her missing limbs but I have another idea. Idk if it's a stretch or not so bear with me-
So we know David was a drug addict at some point. He is also pretty delusional. So. What if Sara was an actual person at one point and David and her fellow in love. Well what if after that, Sara was murdered and dismembered, leaving only her torso, as seen with the mannequin of her, and David saw her body. And since he was delusional, he didn't really realize what happened. So when he found the mannequin, he thought it was her, and proposed to the mannequin and got "married" to Sara. That would explain Trapanrot's dialogue in Sal's dream
But idk, it could be a stretch, I tend to over think things so lmk
Okay, so were getting a sally face 2 right? right, but like- what would happen in it?? the main few are dead/injured so like- is it gonna go back in time??
Guys I'm new so excuse me if this topic has been shared before. But I personally just found out about Sally Face 2 being approved by the dev.
My only thoughts.. please at least bring back the protagonists in one piece all together... Neil and Todd torn apart, Larry just gone I loved him T-T, Sal is an arm, Ash distorted body, Travis.. don't get me started he deserves to be back after how he saved ash and the poor baby soda. Very brutal please we need a resurrection... I just hope the story finally comes all together having a satisfactory end with sally face 2. At least all we desperately need is the main protagonists to be together the 4 of them in each of their living bodies i must say.. so messed up
Theory 1: Kenneth likely married his way into the cult for power.
From Chapter 5 we learn that the original leader of the cult is Citlali Grey, a Native American woman. The cult was based around her tribe's beliefs and way of life. Due to Travis' skin color I believe he is probably Native American as well.
However, I believe Kenneth to be a non-Native who married a Native woman in the Grey tribe in order to gain power and take control of the cult.
My evidence is Travis himself. When talking to Travis in the bathroom stall as well as the other little interactions with him in Chapter 3, it is very clear that Travis believes in religion-based internalized homophobia. "God doesn't love you, why should I?" and "It's not the way a boy should feel. Shame swallows me whole. My father would kill me but I can't live in his shadow forever I just..." are both lines from Travis. I am only semi-familiar with Native American beliefs due to talking with two-spirited folk (an LGBT+ Indigenous identity), but homophobia is not something taught as a Native American belief. Individual Native Americans may be homophobic (just as anyone can be), but the idea of "the one and only God doesn't love the gays" is a belief stemmed from Christianity (though it's obvious not all Christians think so).
Going back to the line, "my father would kill me, but I can't live in his shadow" makes me believe that these homophobic ideas were pushed onto him by his father, Kenneth. The ghosts of Megan (who's parents were also cult members) who died by the hands of Kenneth, also carried with her a cross necklace - a symbol of Christianity.
Not to mention their names, Travis and Kenneth. The original leader of the cult as well as the one descendant we know of (Tala Grey) are both Native American names. Travis and Kenneth are obviously non-Native names.
Lastly, looking at Travis himself it seems that he is a mixed-race boy. The blond hair could very well be to follow the cartoony vibes of unnatural hair (with Sal's being blue and Chug's being green), but I don't believe it is too much a stretch to say that Travis got his blond hair from his dad.
Theory 2: So where's the mom?
Okay, so Travis may be mix-raced with a white dad and Native American mom. Who's the mom?
This one is still fuzzy to me.
I was thinking he could have married a random tribe member and then worked his way up to becoming the leader of the cult - but I really don't think it works that way.
Thinking about the time frame from when we met Tala Grey in Chapter 5, she was looking for her grandfather. Travis was 28 at the time, which would make Kenneth around grandfather-age. It's possible that Kenneth married Citlali Grey and then killed her (framing someone else for her death or maybe claiming it was a suicide) when he wanted to take power.
Since Tala's last name is Grey rather than Phelps, this would have to mean that Citlali had children with another man before. Perhaps Kenneth killed Citlali's husband so that there'd be an open spot for him to slither his way into the cult.
We know so little about Citlali Grey that I can't say I'm even 50% sure this is what happened, but it's worth throwing ideas out there. I'm going to have to go over the time frame a bit more.
Theory 3: How did the cult change after Citlali's death and Kenneth taking over it
I'm hoping it originally wasn't a cult at all and Steve didn't just totally forget to research Native American beliefs. I've seen quite a few Indigenous people discuss disappointment at Steve's portrayal of Native beliefs.
However, maybe the cult wasn't really a demon-summoning, world-destroying cult until Kenneth came into the story.
Understandibly so, when Native Americans form groups based on their own tribes beliefs they normally don't include non-Natives (unless they married someone in the tribe and were welcomed in like family). However, we see that the ghosts of the cult members are not only all white (or atleast pass as white) but also show signs of Christian / non-Native beliefs (back to Megan's cross necklace).
After Kenneth took charge and Citlali, he renamed the tribe to "The Devouerers Of God" and let go of the original Native beliefs all together and turned the tribe into something it wasn't supposed to be. He began letting non-Natives in while still using Native folk's concept of spirituality against them (to talk to spirits and demons).
If this is true, I think it makes up for a very interesting story as well as commentary on how often people participate in the bastardization of Native American beliefs.
I've seen a few people on the internet ask why Sal's mask is the way it is. Here's my theory: In the scene where a young Sal is seen with his father in the car, Sal is wearing his pink mask. Some people believe he had both masks at that point, some believe he got the white one later on. Take your pick of scenario. Well, in that scene Sal says he had chosen the pink mask for his mom since it was her favorite color. If I were to guess, I'd say the pink one broke. My logic with this is that the pink mask probably had sentimental value to him, being his deceased mother's favorite color, and if the white one had broken instead his mask would just be entirely pink. Because of this, when the pink mask broke, Sal took the most salvageable piece from it and cut the white one so he could attach the pink piece smoothly into that spot. I think it's his way of keeping her memory close and coping with her death, and the line when he finds Diane's picture under the bed in Henry's room makes it seem even more logical. ``It's... it's an old photo of mom... I thought dad threw them all away.`` This and the empty beer bottles around the house indicate that after Diane's death, Henry fell into a depressive state and got rid of almost all traces of her, before he turned to alcohol to help him cope. The quote, however, leads me to believe that Sal wanted to keep thoughts of her in his head and keep her memory alive. It sounds like he had tried before to find pictures or reminders of her to cling to, and was always unable to find any. So the logic that he would hold onto that little connection of the pink mask and his mom is pretty solid. But that's just my theory.
So I was wondering, Sal I knowed had a terrible life with his mom getting shot by Kenneth Phillips, and then his friend Larry died *from sucide* He said before his death,
"It's time for me to go, It's too late, I will be gone soon." Those were his last words. Not just that happened, he had to murder all people in Addison Apartments. Most of his neighbors when he was a teen. People cheated death and did the kill by their selves, for the people like Maple, who was gone while the murder happened in Addison Apartments. But she was infected, she should of been there at the start of it. But, she died from the Devourers Of The God, killing her with also Neil, and with 2 more unknown. Then the 3, Ash, Sal, Larry, stopped The Devourers Of God, of posessing the world population. They only got 33% of the world as we can see.*You can see that in the Sally Face Wiki in The Red Eyed Demon.* They possesed all even, murdered in brutal ways. Like taken them as a phantom, brutaling murdering a person on video tape/VHS, and also etc. But why did they plan to do "this" to sal. This is just a theory more lmao peace out.
